Last year I visited Oxford for work for a total of about a month. This week actually marks the one year anniversary of the first of the three visits. Time flies.
It was pretty lonely and miserable, but I kept myself amused by writing postcards detailing the visit by Sir Patrick McNamarra to Oxford that I sent to my friends at home. I recently borrowed the originals from the recipients, gave them a once-over and collected them in a document that can be found here. (More versions under Get Stuff.) Also included are the original two McNamarra text-lets (so called because they are unfinished) and a shorter (not very good) beginning of a story that I wrote (on postcards) when on another (shorter, both in space and time) journey in the line of work this summer. The document also contains notes on the journeys, and on the origins of McNamarra, in a fairly thorough appendix, so I think I will stop here, and let the text speak for itself.
Having completed the thing, of course I wanted to bind it as well. Unfortunately, the site I referred to the last time appears to have disappeared, but luckily the internet provides. I particularly appreciate the first of these two links, since it has very nice and concise drawings rather than photos (and not only for Coptic binding stitch) but the second link is very instructive too. Truth be told, however, with me being a little impatient and all, I actually started without finding a new tutorial, so the results are unfortunately not as neat as they could have been. On other hand, the resulting booklets were only three signatures + covers, which is a little too thin for a nice binding anyway. (*rationalising*)
Since it is a work in progress, I have opted for the more restrictive license CC:By-NC-SA.
